Alysa Lee
My name is Alysa Lee, and I am pursuing my Regional Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing through Stenberg College. With a background in commerce and municipal administration, transitioning into full-time healthcare studies reflects my deep commitment to mental health advocacy and community wellness.
Receiving this scholarship from BluEarth Renewables provides vital financial and academic breathing room. Specifically, I will use these funds to purchase my required textbooks for Semesters 4 and 5. Directly offsetting these out-of-pocket educational expenses allows me to focus fully on mastering advanced clinical competencies and holistic patient care.
Everyone needs psychiatric nurses—including the dedicated workforce driving our clean energy transition. BluEarth Renewables is built on the belief that extraordinary people have the power to change the future, and behind every wind, hydro, and solar project are hardworking individuals navigating demanding roles in remote regions. Living in rural British Columbia, I understand the unique pressures faced by workers and families outside major urban centers. I intend to apply my education by advocating for and caring for the people who power the renewable energy sector—championing occupational mental health, psychological safety, and resilient support networks in the communities where BluEarth Renewables operates.
Beyond my studies, I am passionate about grassroots service, volunteering with Kamloops Immigrant Services alongside serving my local community as a volunteer firefighter and non-profit board member. I am deeply grateful to BluEarth Renewables for investing in my education as I work to support healthier, more sustainable communities.

Recipient of the Community Leaders Scholarship
Archraine Froyche Arce
My name is Archraine Froyche Arce, and I’m a first-year Sociology student at the University of Alberta. Coming from Drumheller, community is far more than a topic studied in textbooks. Growing up, I saw firsthand how small-town communities actually show up and help each other. This perspective gives me a clear purpose for why I want to study sociology and how it will help me understand how communities work.
Receiving this scholarship means a great deal to me. Now that I am well into my first semester at school, having this support takes a financial weight off my shoulders, letting me put my full energy into my coursework and campus involvement without the constant stress of expenses. Academically, it gives me a genuine boost of confidence to keep pushing myself and aiming high. BluEarth gave me an uplifting boost in the middle of tough midterms, and this support pushes me to strive toward who I want to become.
Though I may not be going for an engineering degree or planning to pursue a technical career, however sociology lets me focus on the human side of environmental progress. Renewable energy projects only work in the long run if everyday people and towns feel heard and included. Moving forward, I hope to use what I learned about social dynamics to help bridge that gap and encourage positive, sustainable growth.
I truly appreciate BluEarth for this opportunity. Having their support behind my education and seeing them invest in student leaders means everything.

Ayca Haskoylu
Hello! My name is Ayca, and I’m a fourth-year Electrical Engineering and Business dual-degree student at the University of Calgary. Throughout my undergraduate degree, I have worked to reduce barriers for marginalized communities entering STEM From serving as President of Women in Science and Engineering and running outreach programs for youth and highschoolers, to connecting students with industry professionals as Vice President Events of EngiQueers, I strive to use my privilege to create opportunities for others.
I have also pursued two international internships to broaden my perspective beyond Calgary. I believe connecting with people from different backgrounds challenges our assumptions and makes us better problem-solvers. To me, engineering is just as much about understanding people as it is about technology.
I am incredibly grateful for this scholarship, which has eased the financial burden of my education. This January, I will sail through Asia and Africa, exploring how communities in Malaysia harness solar power and how different cultures approach business and sustainability.
After graduation, I hope to combine both degrees to pursue a career where I can bridge engineering and business, contributing to innovative solutions in fields like renewable energy while making technology more accessible and sustainable for communities worldwide.
