Position Title

Wind Farm Site Supervisor

Location

Southern Ontario

Reporting Relationships

  • Reports directly to Director, Wind Operations;
  • Site Wind Technicians report directly to this position.

Accountabilities and Key Functions

This position will be accountable for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of up to two wind farms in southern Ontario; working with the Director, Wind Operations to ensure safety, environmental, production and annual budget targets are achieved.

The Site Supervisor provides day-to-day supervision at site, including scheduling of all work activities, supervision of all employees at the site, internal and external reporting, and maintaining written and verbal communications between the site and the Director, Wind Operations, customers, key vendors, and local stakeholders.  At this site, the Site Supervisor is also responsible to work as a wind turbine technician, actively participating as a member of the maintenance team in completing wind turbine preventative maintenance and repairs as needed.

Key Operations functions include:

  • Monitor, assess and improve the performance of the wind facilities, through annual operating reviews, including production, corrective and preventative maintenance programs;
  • Establish and maintain a working environment conducive to team work, creativity, and positive morale, actively promoting BluEarth Asset Management Inc.’s (BEAM) culture and values;
  • Develop and maintain annual operating and maintenance budgets to plan, manage and control plant project costs;
  • Develop and execute work planning and staffing schedules, including annual preventative maintenance cycles;
  • Implement all aspects of health & safety policies, practices and programs designed to motivate employees to reduce or eliminate occupational accidents, injuries and other hazards related to company’s operations;
  • Maintain close working and harmonious relationships with all external stakeholders on behalf of BEAM and the owners;
  • Ensure all environmental responsibilities are adhered to at the wind facilities on a proactive basis by working closely with landowners and all applicable government agencies, as required by the site specific approvals, using the BluEarth Regulatory group to support you in this;
  • Submit reports (weekly, monthly, annually) on the performance and progress of the Bow Lake Wind Facility in respect to HS&E, budget, production, availability, and other performance measures currently in place and to be developed;
  • Hiring, training, mentoring and evaluating technicians with support from Human Resources;
  • Responsible for creating and tracking project schedules;
  • Responsible for leading and directing the work of others, including selecting, directing, and supervising others (both staff and contractors);
  • Responsible for verifying accuracy of reports and documents related to plant performance and equipment, following-up with suppliers and service providers when required, and preparing reports or notifications as required;
  • Interact with BluEarth’s project teams (Regulatory, Development, Operations, Accounting), management, and trade contractors to provide technical interpretation of issues, activities and risks, and to ensure the on-site execution of key initiatives, policies or processes;
  • Upholds all aspects of BluEarth and BEAM’s Environmental, Health, & Safety policies, practices, and programs;

Key Success Factors

  • Operate the facility while maintaining zero environmental, health and safety incidents and/or occurrences;
  • Operate the facility to achieve greater than 98% availability, and maximizing project return while respecting approved budgets;
  • Develop a culture of team work, pride and ownership at facilities;
  • Maintaining key relationships with landowners, stakeholders and agencies.

Education

  • Wind Turbine Technician certificate, Technical Diploma or Trade Certificate in Mechanical or Electrical;
  • Other equivalent combinations of directly related post-secondary education and directly related experience may be considered.

Experience

  • Minimum five years of wind power experience;
  • Minimum two years of supervisory experience at a wind power facility;
  • Demonstrated competency in a leadership role;
  • Strong technical knowledge of wind farm operations and turbines, including functionality, design and components;
  • Experience working around high, medium, and low voltage equipment;
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety regulations, and operations, service and other procedural manuals;
  • Ability to read and understand electrical and hydraulic schematics;
  • Familiarity and competency with industry standard SCADA systems and software;
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills for both electrical and mechanical systems.

Job Requirements

  • Valid class G driver’s license, satisfactory 5 year driver’s abstract and 3 year insurance history;
  • Ability to travel within Canada and internationally;
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office product such as Excel, Power Point, and Outlook;
  • Physically capable of working in various plant and field conditions, including working at heights in excess of 300 feet, and working in variable and adverse weather conditions;
  • Ability to work a varying schedule including early mornings, late evenings, weekends and holidays, in addition to being on-call.
